Over the years, Perkins has performed and recorded with her bands Scarlet Haze and Northern Comfort. Scarlet Haze’s third record came out February of 2012 and was produced by James ‘Fluff’ Harley of the World Record Productions and the debut single features Guns N’ Roses guitarist Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal, Nine Inch Nails drummer IIan Rubin, Grammy-nominated producer Joe Marlett (Foo Fighters, Korn) and her current musical director Eric Warner.
After undergoing vocal surgery in 2010, Perkins decided to walk away from her record deal with Warner Music Group and retire from the music scene. She began to nanny for a family of 7 in Edina, Minnesota. It wasn’t long after that an opportunity to perform for the military in the Middle East came up and Perkins found herself back in the rehearsal studio preparing for a trip that would change her life and bring her back into the national spotlight. During her layover in the Amsterdam airport on her return, Perkins was filmed singing Adele’s “Someone Like You.” The video was posted to YouTube, went viral and caught the attention of producers for NBC’s The Voice. With some pressure from the five year old she nannied, who Perkins always told to go after her dreams, she agreed to try out for the show. Perkins quickly became a favorite on the show and as a Top 5 contestant coached by Adam Levine (of Maroon 5).
